From Hollywood to the Aisle

Never in her wildest dreams did Elka imagine she would one day walk the red carpet at the Academy Awards. That she would sit in the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood surrounded by the best in her industry. That she would grace the stage while accepting the Oscar for Best Makeup and Hairstyling at the 88th Academy Awards.

Changing direction at the height of one’s career is not something you would expect following such a life-changing experience. But that’s exactly what Elka did after the birth of her daughter.
Film work is not family-friendly. There are 16-hour days, 3am starts, night shoots, away jobs. It’s all-encompassing, demanding and exhausting. Much like motherhood! But trying to do both was not going to work. Elka wanted a life with her daughter—not one spent on film sets while her little girl grew up without her. So she put her film career on hold and founded Belle Blue Bridal.

Having her own business means she chooses where and when to work. She still does the creative work she loves - just in a way that aligns with her life now. Now she’s available for school pick-ups and drop-offs. Sports days and sick days. At the same time, she brings that film-level artistry to the Blue Mountains and Central West, because brides in these regions deserve the best professional experience possible.

Her approach starts with a detailed questionnaire. She wants to know how brides see themselves on their wedding day. Their current makeup routine. How they want to feel.

From there, she works collaboratively - translating the bride’s vision using her skills, just as she translated directors’, actors’ and designers’ visions in her film work.
Her soft-touch approach means doing only what is needed to achieve the result. It’s not overdone. It’s not a mask. It’s skin that looks like skin. It’s believable. In film, the best makeup is invisible. The audience doesn’t see the makeup - they see the character. They believe who that person is.

Elka works the same way with brides. She’s not here to make you look made-up. She’s here to make you look like you - so when your friends and family see you walking down the aisle, they don’t see the makeup. They see the bride. And when your partner sees you for the first time, she wants them to think, “There she is.” Not, “Who is that?”

Working with Elka begins before the wedding day. Bridal previews are a three-hour experience. one-on-one with the bride, giving space to explore the look thoroughly and leave feeling completely confident. A feedback form is sent afterwards, giving the bride a place to reflect and make any changes.

The bridal party is also taken care of. Each person receives a personal questionnaire via email - ensuring individual needs, preferences and concerns are catered for well before the day arrives.
Elka reaches out to the bride’s hair stylist and photographer to help create a makeup and hair runsheet with plenty of buffer time built in, ensuring the morning stays relaxed and everyone is ready on time.

On the wedding day, Elka brings her complete studio to you - table, mirror, lighting, chair - everything needed to create a professional makeup station on-site.
She sets up, sets the mood, and gets to work. Calm, professional, organised.

And she doesn’t pack up and leave the moment the makeup is done. Elka stays until everyone is dressed, on hand for final touches before she goes.
