Get Cozy
Jun 04, 2025
As the days grow shorter and the chill sets in, we’re drawn to the comforting rituals that come with the season - crackling fires, rich reds, layered textures and long, lingering moments shared with loved ones.
This issue, we’re celebrating the beauty of slowing down. Of pouring a glass of something local and full-bodied, unwrapping a wheel of creamy brie, and sinking into a deep armchair as the flames dance in the hearth. It’s about creating space for comfort - and surrounding yourself with the little luxuries that make winter truly wonderful.
At Mid-Western Living, we believe getting cosy isn’t just about blankets and warming meals - it’s about connection. It’s about gathering around the fire with neighbours, supporting local producers, and turning to the makers, bakers, and curators in our own backyard for inspiration and warmth.
This special feature brings together a collection of regional collaborators who know exactly how to elevate your winter experience - whether it’s through food, wine, homewares, or thoughtful touches that transform your home into a haven. Each brings a unique flavour to the table, all tied together by a shared love of our region and a commitment to keeping things local.
So throw another log on the fire, pour yourself a glass, and settle in - winter has arrived, and it’s never looked so inviting.
Capturing the Heart of the Moment
Behind every beautiful brand, cherished memory, or candid smile is a photographer who knows how to make people feel at ease - and that’s exactly what Kirsty Lee Photography does best. Based in the heart of Mudgee, Kirsty offers professional brand, lifestyle, and portrait photography with a natural, story-led style that captures both warmth and authenticity.
Whether she’s working with local businesses to elevate their brand identity or helping families freeze a fleeting moment in time, Kirsty brings a calm, confident presence to every shoot. Her relaxed approach puts people at ease - no stiff poses or forced smiles here - just honest, meaningful images that reflect real connection.
For local businesses, Kirsty’s work goes far beyond just a “nice photo.” She understands the power of strong, strategic visuals in telling your story and drawing your audience in. The result? Photography that feels personal, purposeful, and perfectly aligned with your brand.
Kirsty is also the photographer behind this issue’s stunning winter cover and collaboration spread - every image you see here is captured through her creative lens. If you’re ready to step in front of the camera, Kirsty is ready to tell your story.

Country Soul, Curated Style
Folkologie is more than just a beautifully curated lifestyle store - it’s a celebration of regional living, personal heritage and heartfelt style. Now owned by sixth-generation local Emily Gale, the Rylstone-based store continues to thrive as a destination for slow, considered living. Emily’s passion for interiors, styling and storytelling is at the heart of everything she does, with every corner of the shop reflecting her love for Australiana, artisan goods and timeless design.
Nestled on the main street of Rylstone - a rustic sandstone village set on the banks of the Cudgegong River - Folkologie is filled with a handpicked mix of locally and internationally sourced homewares, accessories and lifestyle pieces. Each product is chosen for its craftsmanship, character and ability to elevate everyday moments.
Emily’s roots run deep in the region, with her family history in Rylstone dating back to 1886, when her sixth-time great-grandfather “Saddler Jim” opened his saddlery. That same spirit of local pride and trade lives on at Folkologie today.
For this winter’s collaboration shoot, Emily provided the soft tartan blanket and luxe cushions that brought the fireplace scene to life - the perfect textures to wrap yourself in as the temperatures drop.

A New Chapter, Rooted in Legacy
Robert Stein Winery is a name synonymous with heritage, craftsmanship and family. After nearly five decades in the region, the next generation has officially stepped in - with Jacob and Gina Stein now proudly leading the family-owned vineyard, winery and farm.
Established in 1976 by Jacob’s grandfather, Bob Stein, and steered for many years by his father, Andrew, the business has long played a key role in shaping Mudgee’s winemaking story. Today, Jacob and Gina carry that legacy forward with a clear sense of purpose - balancing innovation with tradition, and sustainability with a deep respect for the land.
Since 2009, Jacob’s hands have crafted standout vintages that reflect both place and passion. Their award-winning Rieslings continue to earn national accolades, including Best Wine in NSW at the 2024 Sydney Royal Wine Show.
This issue, their bold, elegant red wines took pride of place beside the fire in our winter feature - the perfect companion for a cosy evening in. As the fire flickers and glasses are raised, there’s no better way to toast to tradition, change, and the richness of regional life.
