Mudgee Ale Trail

food Jun 04, 2024

You’ve undoubtedly heard of a wine tasting tour, but have you heard of a brew tour?

Mudgee Ale Trail is the brainchild of Natasha and James Byrne, and they searched far and wide for the perfect, unique vehicle to have a fun day out in.

“Mudgee has had a serge of breweries start up and after talking to publicans in the surrounding areas, we discovered no one was really taking people out to the pubs on tours - so we decided to change that” said Natasha.

So gather your mates and enjoy an experience like no other exploring local breweries, country pubs and craft distilleries all over this stunning region.

And if you’ve got a wine lover in the mix, you can customise your tour to include a cheeky winery or two!

Here’s just some of the places you can visit on a Mudgee Ale Trail...

Kick off with some delicious, hand crafted spirits and liqueurs at Baker Williams Distillery.

Founded by wife and husband team Helen and Nathan Williams, this micro craft distillery makes a range of gins, liqueurs, rums & whiskies; and uses local ingredients such as Goree Park oranges in their Orancello, Cooyal grown cumquats in their gins and Roth family grown shiraz grapes in their spectacularly delicious Shiraz Gin.

Be sure to grab yourself a bottle of their Butterscotch Snapps - a hot favourite amongst both locals and visitors. It’s rich, opulent, and amazingly authentic butterscotch flavour makes it the perfect end to a dinner party or topping your ice-cream on Wednesday night.

You can’t do a tour of the Mudgee region without including a wine tasting!

Established in 1994 by Mudgee locals Tony & Debbie McKendry and run today by daughter Samantha, Vinifera Wines is truly a family operation.

This award-winning, certified organic vineyard is home to a range of distinctive Spanish varietals including Tempranillo and Granacha, as well as classic Australian Chardonnay and Cabernet.

Begin with a taste of their popular Sparkling Madeleine as you settle in and choose your own individual tasting experience. Then sit back, relax and soak in the sweeping views across the vineyard to the hills beyond while you taste your way through your selected flight of five wines.

While other breweries on the craft beer trail are renowned for their capacity to house a crowd in town, a local favourite Small Batch Brewery & Hop Farm offers a unique kind of Mudgee experience. A visit to the beautiful, tiny brew house is a must do. Set on 40 acres in a classic Mudgee country setting, it’s as intimate as it gets.

This family run labour of love produces unique and limited release beers using locally sourced ingredients that will excite your palate while soaking up the chilled vibes and beautiful views. Serving up everything from a farmhouse style cider, classic lagers and pilsners, to pale ales, sours, imperial stouts and more. For the non-beer lovers, locally produced wine is also available.

Renowned for its locally crafted beers and lively atmosphere Mudgee Brewing Co offers a diverse selection of handcrafted brews, each capturing the essence of the region’s flavours. From crisp lagers to robust ales, there’s something to delight every palate.

The brewery’s dedication to freshly prepared food guarantees that each dish, ranging from hearty pub classics to gourmet bites, is crafted with care. This not only enhancing their flavourful beers but also makes it an ideal lunch spot during your tour.

Whether you’re a beer enthusiast or simply seeking a lively atmosphere, this is the perfect spot to unwind and immerse yourself in the vibrant culture of Mudgee.

With 21 beers on tap, and 12 or so being their own beers brewed on site in their brewhouse Three Tails Brewery & Smokehouse is the ultimate ending to your Mudgee Ale Tour - full of craft beer, low and slow BBQ and good times.

There’s every style of beer that you can think of - and alongside their offerings on tap there’s also huge selection of guest beers from the US, UK, Europe and Asia!

As well as the smokehouse they have a Spanish-style tapas kitchen serving a selection of non-meat small style dishes. And for those that don’t fancy more beer, they have an extensive wine list showcasing many of Mudgee’s best vineyards, plus the biggest gin and whiskey selection in town - all from small batch, artisan and independent distilleries.
