Wilpinjong proud to go pink for a cause
Jan 14, 2026
Having a former professional chef on staff proved a coup when Peabody’s Wilpinjong Mine decided to go all-in on fundraising for Pink-Up Mudgee.
Former chef Michael Cussens and his colleague Sophie Vanstone bake every week for their crew mates. But when they heard Wilpinjong was ramping up fundraising efforts for an amazing cause, they got to work in the kitchen creating pink-themed treats for a bake sale - raising $1400 thanks to the sweet tooth of their work colleagues.
This is the third year in a row the Wilpinjong workforce has banded together to support Pink-Up Mudgee - a community fundraiser that raises money for the McGrath Foundation and the placement of breast cancer nurses in rural areas.
This year’s fundraising activities have also included the sale of pink hi-vis shirts for staff and their families, who have been encouraged to wear these during October to show support for the cause. And staff held a Pink-Up raffle, purchasing more than $3,000 worth of prizes from local businesses.
“Wilpinjong is a major sponsor of Pink-Up Mudgee and we have a longstanding relationship with this fantastic organisation. Our staff are really proud to be involved, and we can see that by the increased funds that people are donating every year,” Commercial Superintendent Gabrielle Dries said.
Wilpinjong also has a pink water cart on site to raise awareness and start conversations around women’s health.
Wilpinjong proudly supports a wide range of other local organisations and charities, and has injected more than $1.2 million over 10 years to 160 community groups through its Community Grants Program.
The mine also supports: The Rural Fire Service, Mudgee Riding for the Disabled, Movember and Mudgee Country Universities Centre.
